Some of you may not be aware that in my 9-5 job I am a businessman and have run a company out of California for most of my professional life. Like many of you, I have also felt the stress of uncertain times during the COVID-19 crisis, while running a business.
Here are a few key ways I have found peace, momentum and strength during these challenging times:
- As a businessman, especially a businessman in the middle of difficult, historic circumstances brought upon by COVID-19, I find it imperative to first start my day out in prayer.
- It’s so easy to wake up with crowded thoughts about all the things that need to get done, or regrets over things that haven’t been done that still need to be done, and so forth, that it’s easy to miss“the big picture.” I start with a succinct yet powerful read from “Jesus Calling,” a fantastic daily devotional book written by Sarah Young, that quickly orients my thinking onto “the big picture.” Quite simply, the BIG PICTURE is this, God knows everything and I don’t! Seriously, as basic as this sounds, it’s a foundational truth that I need to be reminded of daily. Sarah’s writing, based on scripture, beautifully and poignantly gives me the daily dose of hope and encouragement the Lord wants me to hear. Armed with fresh wisdom, I feel more peaceful and prepared to tackle my ‘to do’ list for the day.
- Know that with so much out of our control, we can only control so much. When you feel stressed or overwhelmed, make two lists: One of the things within your control, and the other of the things outside of your control. Focus on the items within your control, prioritizing time-sensitive tasks.
As far as the rest, let God handle everything you cannot control. Trust that He has a plan for your business or career, and that He is far more powerful than a bad virus pandemic.
This is a scripture that I often reflect on….
“Have you ever given orders to the morning or shown dawn it’s place?” Job 38:12
It reminds me of who God is and who I’m not! If you feel encouraged then please pass this along and maybe help someone too.
Have a blessed day and remember that there is not one single day that is too hard or challenging for God, so I encourage you to have this same mindset.
